Doing Your Job

If you are stuck in line at the border, can we book this time off-duty?

According to a strict interpretation of the rules, all of that waiting time must be logged as on-duty, not driving; that’s line four of the logbook. According to the American regs, “any time spent at the controls of a commercial vehicle must be logged as driving time.” How do you like that?

That means that all the time spent waiting in line, creeping forward inch-by-inch for three or four hours, that is supposed to be logged as driving time.
